TWICE Visits Cultural Center

We’re all so excited over here at the Dixie Cultural Art center! For a major event, we’ve had Korean super group TWICE perform on our stage and we couldn’t be happier.

TWICE is one of the most popular band in Korea right now. They are a nine member girl group under the JYP record label. This is JYP’s first large girl group. The founder and owner even appears in some of their video.

TWICE Changing Korean Culture

What’s interesting about TWICE is that they are multicultural. Actually, almost half of their K-Idol members aren’t even from Korea. Sana is from Japan. Tzuyu is from Taiwan. Mina is Japanese American, and was born in San Antonio, Texas. It’s really interesting to see how these international members interact with each other. Different countries have different rules on things like who eats first, and what you call each other.

Korea tends to be very strict about age and status, but the girls all seem to get along just fine.

This girls group certainly has an eclectic mix of personalities. They shine with their fun and cute sense of style both onstage and on their various variety show and reality show appearances.

Even in their private dorm, they’re playing games and dancing with each other.

They blew us all away with their performance of Heart Shaker last weekend. They have been at the top of the charts with their hit songs Likey, Cheer Up and others. But, none have become so popular and well received as Heart Shaker, their latest song. The kpop fashion is also very easy to find and replicate because it is very simple.

Kpop Music Performace

The performance features complex choreography and shows off their dancing skills. Momo, the lead dancer shows great talent for her solos. Most of the girls have been trainees for many years and this is finally their chance to be on the big stage, Jihyo, for example, was a trainee for 10 years before she debuted with JYP’s TWICE. She says she is very happy to be able to wear cute Korean outfits on stage now. It seems that a lot of trainees are usually in sweat pants and workout clothes for their training. Now, she finally gets to wear the superstar hallyu fashion she’s waited so long for.

Kpop Fashion

A great thing I have always appreciated about TWICE is their kpop fashion. They always have a cute and pretty style that doesn’t seem like it’s trying too hard to be too sexy. It just seems a lot more natural. Their makeup style is the same. It’s pretty, without being overdone or dramatic. They are kind of like the “girl next door” look… assuming you have 9 extremely cute girls as neighbors. You can see more Korean fashion at kpopfashion.net.

But, really. They have a less contrived, natural sense of style that appeals to a lot of Korean girls today. Their Korean fashion is something that any girl can copy and not be shocking when going out in public. Fashion in Korea tends to be leaning more toward this direction and that is most welcome.

Old Style

It seems like the Korean fashion style is moving away from the gaudy, aggressive style that you saw with 2NE1 and similar groups, and going more with the natural, cute, girly look. All of it is mixed with a sense of fun and personal flair. Each girl is wearing their own unique fashion, even if they are the same color or style. They don’t all look the same which I think shows off their personalities a lot better.

New Trends

This trend in Korean fashion has been affected by these music videos, which affects the culture, which is very important to us here at the cultural center. We like to see how fashion impacts culture. Overall, we want to thank TWICE for their performance and for their positive impact on fashion, music, and dance in Korea and globally.
